HEROES' LUNCHEON Swabian Events Center 18 May 2001 |
On 18 May 2001, the Stuttgart Chapter of AUSA hosted a seated luncheon for three very distinguished American heroes - 1LT (Ret.) Vernon J. Baker, MOH Recipient WWII; COL (Ret.) Lewis L. Millett, MOH Recipient Korea; and Mr. Sammy L. Davis, MOH Recipient Vietnam. The luncheon was presided over by COL Edwin Buffington, HQ Commandant, USEUCOM. The Posting of the Colors by the HQ, USEUCOM Color Guard was accentuated by the stirring singing of the German and American National Anthems by the EUCOM Harmonizers. After the invocation, the three distinguished guests were introduced to the audience. LTG Daniel Petrosky, the EUCOM Chief of Staff, and several other senior soldiers were present and recognized, as were our Chapter Officers, Life, Sustaining, and Corporate Members Following lunch, the EUCOM Harmonizers presented a medley of patriotic songs. COL Buffington introduced the Guest Speaker, Mr. Sammy L. Davis. Former Sergeant First Class Davis gave a very moving oratory. Following his words, Mr. Davis and his wife Peggy Joe, received momentos of the event from the Chapter President, COL (Ret.) David Beckner. The three MOH Recipients were in the Stuttgart area for the entire week, attending special gatherings for the community. This week culminated with the 226th Army Birthday Ball on Saturday, 19 May 2001. |
