The Association of the United States Army

The Association of the United States Army is a private, non-profit, educational organization whose members, civilian and military, have supported since 1950, all aspects of national security with emphasis on America's Total Army and the men and women who serve. We are the only professional organization supporting America's Army - the Active, Reserve, National Guard, Civilians, Retirees and familiy members.

The Stuttgart Chapter was originally activated on 05 November 1957 as the Kelley Barracks Chapter of AUSA. Our local organization was redesignated as the Stuttgart Chapter, with new by-laws approved and signed on 06 February 1971.

In the 1970's and 80's, the Stuttgart Chapter was comprised of ten sub-chapters, with six in the Greater Stuttgart Military Community (Bad Canstatt-Zuffenhausen, Boeblingen-Sindlefingen, Ludwigsburg-Kornwestheim, Moehringen-Degerloch, Nellingen-Esslingen, and Vaihingen), and others in Goeppingen, Heilbronn, Schwaebisch Gmund, and Schwaebisch Hall. Sub-chapters carried out programs tailored to their local interests and time schedules, in addition to participating in the general membership activities of the Stuttgart Chapter.

Individual membership in the Chapter numbered over 1900 in April 1984. Companies and organizations enrolled as Corporate Members reached a peak of ninety-six in November 1989.

Following the drawdown of the early 1990's, the sub-chapter structure was discontinued. The Stuttgart Chapter continues to pursue AUSA's mission of helping to preserve the Army, and especially the men and women who serve in their noble profession of arms as Soldiers in the greatest Army in the world.

Former members of the Stuttgart Chapter from the 50's through the 90's are invited to write to us via e-mail (stuttgart@ausa.org) or at: Stuttgart Chapter, AUSA, CMR 480 Box 1584, APO AE 09128
